Ever wondered how our felt products come to life? Spoiler alert: it's not churned out in a giant factory. Instead, every single piece is made slowly, carefully, and with so much love — by hand, using time-honoured techniques and the best wool we could get our hands on.
Let’s take you behind the scenes.
It all starts with happy sheep in New Zealand
Before a single felt ball is rolled, our journey begins in New Zealand, where the sheep are well cared for and the wool is world-renowned for its softness and quality.
New Zealand wool is natural, renewable, and just beautiful to work with. It’s also kind to the planet — and to the sheep who grow it.
Months of thoughtful design
I didn’t just order a bunch of ready-made felt things and call it a day. Nope. I spent months searching for the perfect production partner in Nepal — someone who shared my values around fair wages, ethical production, and beautiful craftsmanship.
Once I found them, we got to work trialling samples, tweaking shapes and colours, choosing palettes that spark joy, and fine-tuning every last detail — down to the exact shape of the roof on the house shaped keychain and size of our felt flower balls.
Made the traditional way, by hand
Each product is handcrafted by skilled Nepalese artisans using two traditional techniques:
- Wet felting – Wool is soaked with warm soapy water and gently worked by hand until it binds together into a soft but strong fabric. It’s soothing, slow, and beautifully organic. You can see this process used in the felt balls that make our Felt Freshener Flowers, Flower Keychains and also used to sculpt the dog heads on our Dog Wall Decor.
- Needle felting – For finer details and shapes, barbed needles are used to gently sculpt the wool into form. It’s intricate, precise, and 100% done by hand. Needle felting is used on our House and Heart Felt Keychains and the cute faces of our Dog Wall Decor.
No machines. No shortcuts. Just traditional craftsmanship passed down through generations.
Empowering women and fair trade practices
One of the things I'm most proud of? Our felt products are made in a Fair Trade-certified workshop in Nepal that employs local women and supports them with training, a safe work environment, and fair pay.
Many of these women are the main income earners in their families. By choosing our felt, you’re not just getting something beautiful for your home — you're helping create meaningful, sustainable livelihoods for women on the other side of the world.
